Beautiful agriturismo near Lucca in walking distance of a bar

I arrived a bit early for my appointment with the owner of this agriturismo, so I decided to have a cup of coffee in the bar that is within walking distance of the property (400 metres). Was I in for a treat! This bar is a favourite with the locals for its delicious dolci. The most appetizing croissants, cookies, pastry, muffins and cakes were just crying out to be tasted. Around lunchtime they serve freshly made sandwiches and focaccia too. The bar also has an ice-cream parlour – with homemade ice-cream and yoghurt – so you can imagine why many people go here on hot summer nights to get an ice-cream or have a drink. The place is open until 11 p.m., in summer. 

After a perfect cappuccino it was time for my appointment. I was greeted by the friendly owner and we enjoyed the lovely late summer weather in the garden, while he proudly told me about his agriturismo.

Only a 30-minute drive from the sea

The agriturismo is serenely situated in the fields, yet only 6 km from the centre of lovely Lucca, with its famous renaissance city wall that you can explore along a path that runs along the whole length of the wide wall. Or admire the sights while pedalling your bike. Lucca has a beautiful oval piazza, built on the site of a Roman amphitheatre, and many small streets lined with shops and bars. The airport of Pisa – city of the leaning tower – is only 15 km away. If it’s sea and sand you crave, you can reach lovely long sandy beaches within 30 minutes by car. Or visit the hugely popular seaside resort of Viareggio. Even the Cinque Terre National Park is an easy day-trip destination.   

The garden of the agriturismo has a fenced pool with shallow section for the little ones. There is also a shared barbecue, a play-garden and a small football pitch. You can rent mountain bikes here. Besides the bar described earlier, there is a restaurant just 700 metres away. If you don’t fancy walking, just take the car! After my visit I went there to have lunch, and didn’t regret it. You can feast on local Tuscan dishes there, many of them with meat, and pane fritto (fried bread) as an appetizer. That was something I just could not resist!

Child-friendly with many activities

A bonus of this child-friendly agriturismo are the activities they offer (for an additional fee). You can crank up your heart beat a notch by doing a bike tour of the surrounding area or of Lucca, with a guide! Or a guided walk through the hills that surround the property. They not only organize riding lessons and excursions in the area, but also a wine tour, wine tasting, yoga classes and cooking lessons. No excuses for getting bored!

The apartments

The agriturismo has 8 apartments, the smaller ones situated at ground-floor level and the larger ones on the first or second floor of the villa. All the apartments are provided with WiFi, airco and a safe.  

The ground-floor apartments have their own terrace, but those on the first and second floor also have a (shared) outdoor area with seats where guests can lounge in the shade of a pergola.
