Living it up on high: splendid agriturismo in the mountains

This agriturismo provides the opportunity to really experience life on a farm in the Trentino mountains. Magnificently situated on a high “alm”, or alpine pasture, with a wide view over the mountains. This farm is a truly artisan structure: built in the traditional style, completely of wood. The sound of cow-bells completes the picture. The owner showed us around, carrying her little boy of only a few months on her arm. She immediately makes her guests feel welcome in the farmer’s family and their home!

A convivial "stube"

At the front of the house is a large sun terrace with wooden tables and chairs. In fine weather, this is a nice place to have dinner. The cosy “stube” is indoors. Wooden tables and benches grouped around a wood burner. This is where dinner is served in the evenings. Most of the guests have dinner at the agriturismo, with good reason. Delicious local cuisine is served here, made in the traditional way by the farmer’s wife. These dishes regularly include “Knödel”, or “Teigtaschen” (Ravioli filled with seasonal products). But also Goulash made with meat from the farm, or the local favourite: “Röstkartoffeln” (fried potatoes with bacon and fried eggs). And they have a selection of famous Trentino wines to go with it.

The farm has dairy cows, the milk of which is used to produce dairy products such as cream cheese and yoghurt. The bread and cakes for breakfast are homemade, and the eggs are from their own chickens. Their vegetable garden produces most of the vegetables and herbs that are used to prepare the meals. Even the water comes from a well on the farm. They also have their own little shop where one can buy products from the farm. When I visited this agriturismo, I saw guests checking out and packing their cars with bags filled with delicacies from the farm.

Animals and bio pool

There are two ponies for the children to ride on, at an additional cost. Then there are goats that are keen to be fed grass by the children. The garden has a fun playground with swings and a wooden playhouse, among other things. The swimming pool is a modestly-sized bio pool with a wooden footbridge across it.

The suites

The agriturismo has 6 spacious suites, all situated at ground level, with large windows and glass doors to offer an optimal view of the garden and mountains. Some of the suites have a sofa-bed that sleeps two children next to the double bed. One of the suites has a bathtub in the room. The suites have their own terraces, and are provided with wifi, TV, heating, locker and hair dryer.

At this agriturismo you will really experience what life is like on a farm in the mountains: close to nature, fresh and healthy. You can take lovely hikes in the surrounding area, or go biking, and there are various activities offered in the vicinity, both in summer and winter, there is for instance a skiing area only 20 minutes away by car. A splendidly-situated authentic and active agriturismo, fun for adults and children alike!
